Saturday night sky: New Moon, November 7

Here is your Saturday night sky. Tonight the Moon is in Libra, in its new moon phase and about 3% lit.

What to look for

The Moon is close to the Sun in the sky, so you will not see it tonight. That makes it a good night for stars: the dark sky shows more of them.

Coming up

The next new moon is on November 9, in Scorpio, which is 2 days from now. Mercury is retrograde right now. In old astrology that is a reminder to double-check messages and plans, and in the real sky it just means Mercury appears to drift backward for a few weeks.

One tip for tonight

A hot drink in a flask makes a short stargazing session a lot more pleasant.
