Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Witchonomics collects, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use advertising trackers. On this website only (not inside the app), we use Google Analytics to count visits, and only if you accept it on the cookie banner.
What we collect, and where it lives
- Your birth details (date, optional time, and city). These are saved on your own device. Each time the app draws a sky or writes a reading, it sends the date, time, and the city's coordinates to our sky service so the positions can be calculated. We do not keep them on our servers.
- Your location, only if you tap "Use my location". The app asks your device once, finds the nearest city, and keeps only that city on your device. Your exact position is never sent to us.
- Your account. An account is required to use Witchonomics. We receive your email address (or your Google sign-in details) and an account ID, handled by Google's Firebase Authentication. We use your account to check your plan and to apply fair-use limits.
- Your plan and payments. Subscriptions are handled by RevenueCat and Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe; we never see or store your card number. We receive your plan, its dates, and whether you are in a free trial.
- Your journal, garden, pantry and familiar. Journal entries, plants, pantry items and your familiar are saved on your device only. If you clear your browser's data or delete the app, they are lost. We cannot recover them for you.
- Symptom search. The words you type in the Apothecary's symptom search are matched against our plant guide on your device. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and they are not saved.
- Plant ID photos. When you use Plant ID, the photo is resized on your device and sent through our server to a plant-identification service called Kindwise. We do not keep the photo. Kindwise keeps each identification result for about six months. Please do not photograph people.
- In-depth readings. When you ask for an in-depth reading, we send Google's Gemini service the facts of your chart (the signs and degrees of the Sun, Moon and planets, today's date, and the focus you chose). We send no name, email or account details. The reading is written by AI.
- Free-trial protection. To stop one person using the free trial again and again, we keep a one-way scrambled version (a hash) of your email address, along with your account ID, the first time you use a trial feature. We cannot turn it back into your email address. We keep it even if you later delete your account, because deleting it would defeat its purpose. We also ask you to confirm your email address before the free-trial extras work.
- Tips and offers emails (only if you tick the box). On the sign-up form there is an optional box, unticked, for emails about new features, moon notes and discounts. If you tick it, we keep your account ID, your email address, that you said yes, the date, and where you said it. You can turn it off at any time in Me, My info and billing, and every marketing email will also carry an unsubscribe link. If you do not tick it, we send only emails about your account and your plan (for example, confirming your email address or answering a message you sent us).
- Usage counts. To enforce monthly limits, we keep a count per account of how many plant IDs and in-depth readings you have used each month, along with your account ID.
- Website analytics (only if you accept). If you click Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics counts visits to this website: the pages viewed, your approximate location, device and browser type, and the page that sent you here. It uses cookies and identifiers for this. If you click Decline, or ignore the banner, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. This does not apply inside the app.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting and cloud providers (Google) receive your IP address and basic request details when you load a page or call a service, and keep ordinary logs for security and reliability.
- Owner-only monitoring. We use an internal, owner-only monitoring tool to see system health and totals, such as how many accounts were created today, and a scheduled check that counts new accounts to spot abuse. It does not show your journal entries, readings or messages.
- Messages to us. If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply.
How we use it
To draw your sky and write your readings; to run your account and check your plan; to apply fair-use limits; to keep the service secure and fix problems; to answer your questions; and to meet legal obligations. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles to sell.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that help us run Witchonomics, each for its own job:
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud: hosting, sign-in, our database and servers, and Gemini for in-depth readings; and Google Analytics on this website if you accept it).
- RevenueCat and Stripe (subscriptions and payments).
- Kindwise (plant identification from photos).
We may also share information if the law requires it or to protect people from harm. If freber LLC is ever sold or merged, your information would move with the service and this policy would continue to apply until you are told of any change. When you follow a link to a seller, that seller's own privacy policy applies.
How long we keep it
Data on your device stays there until you delete it. Account details are kept while your account exists. Usage counts are kept as long as needed to enforce monthly limits and are deleted if you ask. Logs kept by our providers are deleted on their normal schedules. Messages to us are kept until we delete them; you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Your choices and rights
- In the app, Me → Delete my data on this device clears your birth details, journal, garden, pantry and familiar from your device.
- In the app, Me → Delete my account deletes your sign-in account. If you have a paid plan, delete the account and cancel the plan (see our Cancellation and refunds page), because deleting an account does not by itself stop a subscription.
- You can email support@witchonomics.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, including your usage counts.
- California and other U.S. state residents may have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
Witchonomics is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child has used the service, email us and we will delete the information.
Security
We use well-known providers and encrypted connections, we keep our server keys in a secure vault, and we limit what each service can see. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect where the law requires it.
