Lavender

A silvery, fragrant shrub with spikes of purple flowers, grown for scent for centuries.
In the garden
Full sun, gritty or sandy soil and no wet feet. Trim lightly after flowering and never cut into old bare wood.
In the kitchen
Use the flower buds sparingly in shortbread, sugar and honey; too much tastes of soap.
Take care
- Keep the essential oil away from children and do not swallow it.
- Can irritate sensitive skin and can upset cats and dogs if eaten in quantity.
