Dill

A tall, airy annual with threadlike leaves and flat yellow flower heads, the herb of pickles and smoked fish.
In the garden
Full sun and shelter from wind; it dislikes being moved, so sow where it will grow. Keep it away from fennel, which it can cross with.
In the kitchen
Snip the fronds over fish, potatoes and yogurt sauces; use the seed heads in pickling.
Take care
- Food amounts are fine. Strong medicinal amounts are traditionally avoided in pregnancy.
