Borage

A bristly, fast-growing annual with sky-blue star flowers that taste faintly of cucumber and are adored by bees.
In the garden
Full sun, ordinary soil, and plenty of space; it seeds itself generously, so one plant becomes many.
In the kitchen
Use the blue flowers only as an occasional garnish in drinks and salads; do not make a habit of the leaves.
Take care
- The leaves and seed oil contain compounds that can harm the liver. Do not take them regularly or in medicinal amounts.
- Avoid in pregnancy and while nursing.
- Treat as a garden and bee plant; the flowers are an occasional garnish only.
